Ed Sheeran kicked off his all new world ‘Mathematics Tour’ in Dublin’s Croke Park on Saturday evening.

Over 80,000 fans, young and old, flocked to the stadium to watch what was dubbed as ‘Ed’s BIGGEST and BEST tour yet.’

Last night’s performance was the first major outdoor concert in Dublin since the Covid-19 pandemic began. And fans weren’t disappointed!

Ed is perhaps best known for his incredible live performances with just an acoustic guitar and a loop pedal. But for this tour, he has truly stepped up his game.

He might still sport his usual jeans and scruffy t-shirt look, but everything from the revolving stage in the centre of the stadium to the hanging guitar-pick screens, pyrotechnics and fireworks, prove just how big an artist the Suffolk singer-songwriter is!

Limerick rapper Denise Chaila and Maisie Peters warmed up the crowd as they entered the stadium.

Maisie said: “It’s a dream to get to support Ed on this tour. Playing venues like these with an artist like Ed is something beyond the realm of anything I ever thought possible, and I’m so excited to be going out on tour with him this summer.”

As the ten-minute countdown appeared, the screams of anticipation from Croke Park could be heard across Dublin.

Right on cue at 8.30pm, the centre screen lifted, and the red head appeared with his Lowden guitar in hand, opening the show with ‘Tides.’

His set list featured hits from all four solo studio albums, including new singles 'Bad Habits' and 'Visiting Hours', as well as a quirky mash-up from his various collaboration projects.

There was even a remix of 'Don't' from Ed's 'X' album and Dr Dre's 'No Diggity' 🤣

What makes Ed’s shows so unique is that everything is live, he told the crowd: “What I’m standing on is a loop station, everything you will hear tonight is completely live, there’s no backing track. When the song is done, it gets deleted and it’s completely different the next time.”

Sheeran is set to perform at Croke Park again tonight - Cool Breakfast’s Pete, Paulo and Rebecca are going, so be sure to keep an eye out on our socials.

Ed will be visiting Belfast in just a few weeks time, with two shows at Boucher Road Playing Fields on Thursday 12th and Friday 13th May 2022. There's still some tickets available for Belfast via ticketmaster.ie
