Belters Only announced for Belsonic 2024
Following their sold-Out Custom House Square in Belfast earlier this year, Dublin born Dance Chart sensations Belters Only are pleased to announce their biggest Belfast headline show yet at Ormeau Park, Belfast on Friday 14th June 2024.
Coming off the back of their chart-topping debut single 'Make Me Feel Good' — officially in the Top 40 most listened to songs of 2022 in UK and Top 50 in Ireland, a summer spent entrancing the rave-hungry masses of Longitude, Ibiza Rocks and Ministry of Sound, plus mentions in NME, Hot Press and Billboard — it's starting to look more and more like magnetic Dublin duo Belters Only are destined for world domination.
The pair's joyful new single 'I Will Survive' — an up-tempo, emotion-filled rework of Gloria Gaynor's 1978 classic — joins a serious batch of euphoric 90's-house-inspired bangers that take direct inspiration from the golden era of Irish clubbing.
Having reached No.1 in the Irish singles chart (the first homegrown dance act to do so in 22 years) and No.3 in the UK Top 40, their now UK and Ireland platinum-selling record 'Make Me Feel Good' —featuring vocalist and longtime friend Jazzy — has seen spins on dancefloors all over the world.
It doesn't seem to be stopping there. They've just released a remix of MK and Paul Woolford's new track 'Teardrops', played to a sell-out crowd at Dublin's 13,000 capacity 3Arena and seen support from BBC Radio 1's Scott Mills and a remix from Tion Wayne and Bru-C.
Who are Belters Only?
Belters Only, made up of Bissett and RobbieG, started life at the cusp of the pandemic — built from a shared desire of two artists on disparate paths to get back to their roots. Having met at Dublin's beloved former nightspot Sin — a city-centre haven for organ-heavy, uplifting 90s house anthems (think Robin S and Love Inc.) — the two quickly formed the collective Warriors alongside six other DJs, cutting their teeth throwing parties on Sunday nights for eager Dubliners. The venue closed its doors in 2017 — sending Bissett and RobbieG on their separate ways, but each retained a deep love for their melodic origins.
Though both had similar, self-taught avenues into music — their journeys have been very different. For Bissett DJing came first; after taking beginners lessons at a local youth centre when he was 14. At 18, he decided he wanted to start creating music, hustling and saving up for a laptop to plough his imagination into Ableton. Bissett attributes his keen ear for vocals to his mother's love of R&B divas such as Toni Braxton and Mary J Blige — evidenced in the velvety harmonies in his intensely catchy 2019 track 'Every Single Time', with London-born rapper Silky later jumping on a remix.
RobbieG on the other hand, saw his productions hitting the big leagues before he'd even left school. Coming from a "deeply musical family," Robbie spent much of his teenage years curating his SoundCloud and developing remixes from ripped vocals taken from YouTube. Fatefully, his mix of Crystal Waters' 'Gypsy Woman' went viral on the platform, earning the notice of Waters herself — who invited the 17-year-old producer to remix her 1991 track in the studio.
From there, he quickly earned a reputation for glossy reimaginings of pop records — the most famous, arguably, being Galantis' 'Runaway', which reached 12 million views on YouTube and catapulted Robbie to global recognition. The two had remained in touch during their solo endeavours, but after reuniting in 2020, they decided to join forces and recreate the high-energy, blissful sound they encountered at Sin — but with a polished, modern twist.
This year, Belters played Creamfields North, EH1 Festival in Edinburgh and hosted their own pool party at BH Mallorca Resort in Magaluf.
With 48.8 million streams for 'Make Me Feel Good', a knock-out Friday night residency on Spin1038 and an exciting year of release planned — it's only a matter of time before Belters Only go from local Dublin heroes to household names.
