After waiting for two years for the hit show to return, fans can finally watch the highly anticipated third series of The Split! Following the news last year that BBC drama The Split would be returning to our screens in 2022 the show will premiere its final season tonight (4th April).

When does The Split series 3 start?

Bosses have now confirmed series three of The Split will return to our screens on Monday 4th April at 9pm.

Although episodes will air weekly on BBC One, from 4th April, all episodes in series three will be available to binge on BBC iPlayer.

What is The Split?

The drama, which first hit our TV screens back in April 2018, follows the lives and drama of the Defoe family who all work in divorce law for the family firm, until main character Hannah, played by Nicola Walker, causes a stir by joining rival company Noble and Hale in series one.

Following the dramatic ending to series two in February 2020, where the law firms merged to create Noble Hale Defoe, bosses confirmed in February 2021 that a third series was in the works.

According to the BBC, both Nicola Walker and Stephen Mangan will reprise their roles in the popular drama, for 'one last legal battle'.

Dermot O'Leary's wife Dee Koppang O'Leary has joined the show as lead director, with Bafta and Emmy Award-winning writer Abi Morgan, and Executive Producers Jane Featherstone, Lucy Dyke and Lucy Richer.

The Split writer Abi Morgan said: “It’s great to be back writing for the Defoe Family, and to dive once more into to the complications of their lives and those of their clients. In the final series of this bittersweet trilogy, Hannah faces the heartbreak of her own divorce, and the fight to save her family and her marriage. Siblings clash, past mistakes are exposed and hearts are broken as Noble Hale Defoe notches up more billable hours in the divorce capital of the world.”

As well as Nicola and Stephen, other popular faces will reprise their roles in The Split, including Annabel Scholey (Nina Defoe), Fiona Button (Rose Defoe), Deborah Findlay (Ruth Defore) and Chukwudi Iwuji (Alex Hale).

Speaking about series three, actress Nicola Walker said: “I can’t wait to be back in the Defoe Family, we are all looking forward to the journey Abi has planned for us. I don’t know if Hannah will cling to the wreckage or walk away, but I do know it’s going to be a fantastic ride.”
