According to Ofcom’s latest Media Nations report, people in Northern Ireland spent 2 hours 44 minutes per day watching broadcast TV on a TV set in 2023, but there is a huge generational divide in viewing habits.

Over-55s spent an average of 5 hours and 27 minutes a day watching TV compared to just 28 minutes a day for 16-24 year-olds.

Viewers and listeners in Northern Ireland maintained their strong appetite for local services and programmes, with Blue Lights topping the list of most-watched programmes last year.

Live sport also figured prominently, with two big rugby matches featuring among the top ten most-watched programmes in 2023.

Netflix is the most popular SVoD service in Northern Ireland, followed by Amazon Prime Video and Disney+.

Today’s Ofcom report also revealed that just over two-thirds of adults in Northern Ireland (67.1%) listen to local commercial radio at least once a week.
