Love Island 2022 star Jacques O'Neill has endured a bit of scrutiny this past week, following his behaviour during Casa Amor, which left co-star and love interest Paige Thorne in tears.

As Jacques attempts to win back Paige with cute notes and love letters, his family have released a statement, urging fans to 'be kind' online.

Revealing Jacques was diagnosed with ADHD when he was just nine-years-old, the statement read: 'Jacques was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 9 years old.

'By no means is this a get out clause for his actions but it is to show that he can fundamentally struggle with his emotions at times.

'He is an amazing person who I’m proud to call my friend/little brother.

'All the hate thrown towards Jacques doesn’t go to him directly….It comes to his loved ones who have always supported him and not just whilst he is on Love Island.

'Love Island, although real. Is still a show where the producers do have control and we see 45minutes out of the 1440 in 24hours.

'Please be kind♥️'. (sic)

Jacques' followers were quick to comment on the post, with many sending their love to the former Castleford Tigers player.

One wrote: 'I did wonder about this. Makes a lot of sense now. #alwaysbekind❤️', with another adding: 'Well said, my son has ADHD as well as Tourettes and both are very misunderstood by majority of people x ❤️'. (sic)

Another wrote: 'Thank you so much for sharing. It makes so much sense now. I couldn’t understand why he was acting in a certain way and at times I felt as though I was watching 2 completely different people! I hope he finds the courage to open up to Paige because I know she’d be so understanding. It’s clear he’s fallen for her. ❤️'. (sic)

Meanwhile, despite getting cosy with Casa Amor bombshell Cheyanne Kerr, Jacques ultimately decided to stick with Paige during one of the most dramatic recouplings in the show's entire history last week.

As Paige also arrived back single, the pair remained in a couple, but things quickly took a sour turn when Cheyanne dropped the news that Jacques had been affectionate with her.

Despite the rugby player seemingly doing his best to get back in the good books, the shock arrival of 2018 Islander Adam Collard could create yet another plot twist to the story, with a first look clip showing Adam cracking on with Paige.

Will Paige forgive Jacques and stick with him? Or will the charm of Geordie boy Adam turn her head? 👀

Love Island continues every night at 9pm on ITV2.
