If you are thinking about applying for Love Island 2020, you might be better off spending time working on your Instagram page, as it's been revealed that only SIX of this year's 36 Islanders actually went through the application process.

Despite ITV leaving applications open until just two weeks before the 2019 final, it's been confirmed that 24 of this year's Islanders were discovered by the casting team, with another six being put forward by agents.

ITV chief executive Dame Carolyn McCall said, "On series five of Love Island to date (15 July), there have been 36 contributors. Twenty-four were found and cast by the programme's casting team, six were put forward by professional agents and six came through the general application process."

Despite this, it's not been confirmed which six Islanders actually applied for the show, which was won by Amber Gill and Greg O'Shea on Monday 29th July.

The 2019 series of Love Island saw a number of Islanders who already had a large following on social media.

Curtis Pritchard, who made it into the final, is the brother of Strictly Come Dancing star AJ Pritchard, and he's previously appeared on the Irish version of Dancing With The Stars. Similarly, boxer Tommy Fury is the younger brother of Tyson Fury, and is known in the sporting world.

Meanwhile, the likes of Molly-Mae Hague, India Reynolds, Jourdan Riane, Danny Williams, Arabella Chi and Jordan Hames, were all successful models before entering the villa.

Speaking to MPs in the past, Dame Carolyn McCall revealed just how popular the show is. She said, "There's a very rigorous application and casting process.

"We get about 98,000 applications for Love Island, they then take that down to about 90 to 100 as soon as they get a call back - at that stage they go through medical questionnaires, psychological questionnaires, assessments, that then goes down to about 30 or 40 who get selected to appear on Love Island.

"It's a very rigorous process of screening that goes on before they actually get on to Love Island."

Meanwhile, although applications for Love Island 2020 are not yet open, ITV have confirmed the show will have TWO series next year, with a Winter edition taking place out in South Africa!

TOMMY STOLE LUCIE FROM JOE

After surfer girl Lucie coupled up with Joe on the first episode of the series, things seemed to get off to a good start... before Tommy entered hours later.

Tommy chose to couple up with Lucie, stealing her from poor Joe. He said in the Beach Hut, "At the moment the girl I want to pursue is going to be Lucie. She's a surfer, she goes to the gym. Her body is banging. She has beautiful eyes, a beautiful face, beautiful everything."
