Jane The Virgin fans overjoyed as theories confirmed in heartwarming series finale
It was so emotional!
Fans of Jane The Virgin have known for a while now that the last ever episode was on its way - but it didn't make it any easier to watch. The series finale was available to stream in the UK on Netflix as of yesterday (1st August), and after five seasons and five years of the most dramatic twists and turns ever, it's really over.
In a rare feat for TV these days, Jane viewers were actually overjoyed with how the series ended, and many loose ends were tied up. But if you've not yet watched it, turn away now as there are plenty of Jane The Virgin finale spoilers ahead!
Did Jane and Rafael finally get married?
Yes - the whole episode centred around Jane and Rafael FINALLY tying the knot. After break-ups and make-ups and husbands coming back from the dead - not to mention the artificial insemination that started this whole thing off - those two really had been through the mill.
But it wouldn't have been Jane The Virgin without a dramatic wedding day! Jane a had spark of inspiration at the rehearsal dinner the night before, and wrote an alternative ending to her novel that she was much happier with - but it had already been sent to her idol, Isabel Allende with the other ending.
After drama and a huge romantic gesture from Raf - who ended up being arrested - Jane boarded a bus in a nod to the pilot episode, and the entire family arrived a little late but in one piece, and Jane and Rafael were finally joined in matrimony.
What will happen to Petra?
In one of the most surprising twists, Petra and Jane - who were once mortal enemies, let's be honest - became just as important a love story as Jane and Rafael, and Jane and Michael. Their friendship blossomed into sisterhood, and we've been just as emotionally invested in their love for each other than the other relationships.
But Petra deserves romantic love and happiness too - so when J.R turned up at the wedding (thanks to Rafael), the pair had a real movie-star smooch, decided to put their past behind them and make it work. Yay!
Who was the Narrator on Jane The Virgin?
Ahh, one of the longest mysteries of the show! There have been plenty of theories around who the Narrator really was - especially after plenty of hints dropped by the man himself that he's actually a central character - but in the end, the most obvious theory was correct. It was Mateo!
Having been voiced by Anthony Mendez throughout, the Narrator has always been there to drop hints and provide context when Jane The Virgin got into really confusing, telenovela waters.
At the ceremony, Mateo, Ellie and Anna give a reading from a book, with Mateo receiving coaching from his 'glam-mother' and telling Jane and Rafael, "She said I’d be great at voice-over work," as the Narrator tells the audience, "And for the record, I am." Aww!
Who were Rafael's parents?
Another of the show's loose ends was tied up in the finale - who were Rafael Solano's parents in Jane The Virgin? Although it's been hinted at and almost confirmed many times, Raf's step-sister Luisa handed over some documents to Jane which contained the information.
And it turns out that his parents were actually just two normal people, who tragically died in a car accident. When he finds out, he's relieved that they weren't part of any crime family or dodgy dealings, and even begins to call Rogelio 'Dad'.

Britney Spears
Yes, it will come as no surprise that the Queen of Cameos herself, Britney Spears, once appeared in an episode of Jane The Virgin. And it wasn't just a blink-and-you'll-miss-it kind of situation either - pretty much the entire episode revolved around Britney's feud with Rogelio, and the pair putting aside their differences.
Kesha
Singer Kesha (formerly Ke$ha) appeared on Jane The Virgin in season two in 2015 as Annabelle. She played a rockstar in a band (apt!) who lived next door to Jane when little Mateo was just a baby, and the pair had rows over Kesha's late-night band practise and Mateo's early-morning crying. When Jane stole some of her equipment, the pair came to blows - but were able to patch things up by the end of the episode.
Paulina Rubio
Mexican singer Paulina Rubio appeared in an season one episode in December 2014, first appearing as part of Jane's mum Xiomara's imagination. As Xiomara is an aspiring singer herself, she sees Paulina as a huge inspiration - and when Paulina turns up at a bar, Xiomara takes the opportunity to speak to her heroine. She encourages Xo to continue with her singing dream and it's all a lovely moment.
David Bisbal
David Bisbal is a Spanish singer and actor, and appeared on the show in season one, performing a concert which the characters attend. Whilst singing 'Esclavo de sus besos', Jane has a daydream that she's dancing romantically with Rafael.
Juanes
Colombian musician Juanes appeared in a season one episode, starring as an old friend of Jane's dad Rogelio de la Vega who comes in to help Xiomara with her singing career.
Charo
Spanish singer Charo has appeared twice in episodes of Jane - both times in season two as a celebrity friend of Rogelio's.
Gloria and Emilio Estefan
Music legends Gloria and Emilio Estefan made a cameo appearance on Jane in season three, after Rogelio pulled some strings with his celebrity friends in order to help Xiomara. The pair offer some advice to Xo, but Jane doesn't agree and ends up snapping at them - leading to some very awkward apologies.
Justin Hartley
This Is Us star Justin Hartley made an appearance in season five, having gone for a sunbed session at the same place as Rogelio, who tries to convince him that they should be pals since they're both celebrities. Safe to say, it doesn't go down very well.
Bruno Mars
Internationally beloved singer Bruno Mars appeared in the season two episode in which Jane and Michael Cordero Jr. finally tied the knot. Once again, Rogelio was able to pull some strings with his famous friends, and got Bruno to sing for Jane and Michael's first dance together as man and wife.
Haley Lu Richardson
The Edge of Seventeen actress Haley Lu Richardson had a small cameo in season five, starring as Michael's neighbour in Montana with whom he has a feud. In real life, Haley Lu and Brett Dier, who plays Michael, are engaged!
Eva Longoria
Eva Longoria in a series four episode of Jane as yet another of Rogelio's celebrity friends who he tries to convince to play his romantic lead in the US remake of his hit telenovela, Las pasiones de Santos. However, the pair discover that they're actually related, and can't bring themselves to kiss each other - which ruins the whole thing.
We can't believe it's all over!
