Maria is furious when she learns about the mountains of debt Gary is in just as she's about to buy the barber shop from Audrey.
But Gary's money worries are getting out of hand as he's forced to cut Fiz's hours when Kevin raises the rent on the furniture shop.
Gary pays a visit to Kevin wanting to know why he's increasing the rent and Kevin is forced to admit he sold the premises to Ray.
Later on Ray pays a visit to the furniture shop himself, offering Gary £150k for the Underworld factory, but Gary insists it's not for sale.
Over at number 8, the Platts are preparing for Audrey's 80th birthday and when Gary offers to give David a number for the sinkhole, David tells him Ray offered to buy the house off him.
His mind whirring, Gary calls Ray back and says that if he doubles his offer he'll consider selling the factory as Maria puts pressure on him about buying the barber shop.
Despite Ray upping his offer to £400k, Gary isn't budging and tells him whatever his game is, he's not playing ball and the factory isn't for sale. How will Maria react?
Meanwhile, David is having problems of his own when Shona arrives at the party with a load of random people she's picked up at the café.
As David is forced to kick the strangers out of number 8, Shona is left wondering what she's done wrong.
Later on, David catches Shona taking Max's medication instead of her own and realises with a sinking stomach that she's not ready to be left alone.
When Shona later tells David that she thinks it's time they started sharing a bed again, David wonders if things will ever go back to normal.

Having told his mum he has got no choice but to leave for good, Todd lets himself into number 11 to look for the cash she's saved to pay Mick back.
But soon Mick arrives at the house and Todd hides. With Eileen an unconvincing liar, Mick realises Todd is upstairs and holds the Grimshaws at gunpoint.
Later on, Mick and a sidekick turn up at the furniture shop to threaten Gary, believing him to be in cahoots with Todd, but Gary's keeping shtum.
Soon Mick resorts to violence and when Maria later finds him bloody and bruised, she urges him to go to police. But in all the commotion, Todd has disappeared.
