Sam Smith Wins The 2014 BRITs Critics’ Choice Award

He follows in the footsteps of Adele, Jessie J and Emeli Sandé

The BRIT Awards have announced that Sam Smith has won the 2014 Critics’ Choice Award.

The 21-year-old Disclosure and Naughty Boy collaborator beat runners up Ella Eyre and Chloe Howl to the coveted award.

Sam said: “I'm completely overwhelmed! To see my name alongside the list of former winners, artists I admire so much it, is incredible. What an amazing Christmas present. Thank you!”

He will be presented with this award at ‘The BRITs Are Coming’ nominations announcement on 9th January ahead of The BRITs ceremony on 19th February.

Sam will be hoping to match the phenomenal success of previous BRITs Critics’ Choice winners Adele, Florence & The Machine, Ellie Goulding, Jessie J, Emeli Sandé and Tom Odell.

Collectively, the winners to date have sold more than 13million records worldwide.

The Critics’ Choice winner is voted for by a team of music journalists and editors, music websites and major radio and TV stations.

With a number one already to his name singing on Naughty Boy’s ‘La La La’, more big success if almost guaranteed for Sam!
