RAYE reveals BRIT nominated song ‘Bed’ was written over three years ago

“I’m sitting on some gold!”

Since her breakthrough record 'You Don't Know Me' with Jax Jones, RAYE has gone from strength to strength, continuing to release dancefloor-worthy anthems.

The London-born singer released her debut mini-album 'Euphoric Sad Songs' in November 2020 which also featured a collaboration with Rudimental on track 'Regardless'.

More recently, she worked alongside producer Joel Corry and legendary DJ David Guetta on chart-topping track 'Bed' and earned a BRIT Award nomination for her track 'Secrets' with Regard.

RAYE spoke to Fleur East before this year's BRIT Awards to chat about how the catchy tune that got her nominated for British Single came about.

She said: "There is so much that I have been holding on to for a really long time. ‘Secrets’ being one of those songs, I wrote that song three and a half years ago. It has been in the vault a long time. ‘Bed’ was in the vault for two and a half! I told my label, you need to listen to my team!

“I had the original idea with David Guetta two years ago and then Joel heard it, wanted to work on it, he took it and I had so many versions, mixes and masters sent. The original chorus is two and a half years old and has been chilling in my Dropbox since!”

Although RAYE missed out on the top prize to Harry Styles' Summer 2020 anthem 'Watermelon Sugar', she insisted that she already felt like she had won.

She explained: “It’s just nice to be invited to the party! The last time I was at the BRITs I was on the sofa with my mum and I was saying ‘I need to get there!’ So just to be invited feels like a win, I’m so honoured. I went to the BRITs school, I have my old headteacher saying ‘RAYE, we’re so proud of you’.

“Nobody sees it but nobody wants to see the ugly truth. As women you keep it cute and you keep pushing, the hustle, the tears, the ups and downs, the no’s, it’s all how we’ve got to these points now. It’s nuts!”

RAYE's mini-album 'Euphoric Sad Songs' featured five songs including collaborations with Rudimental and Regard, but the singer is yet to release a full-length studio album.

“I’m trying to keep the momentum flowing, it’s time for an album! My first one ever! That’s the plan and what is coming. I’m ready to vomit out so much music, there so much that I have been holding on to for a really long time."

We can't wait to see what she does next!
