Jess Glynne has been teasing her new song 'Friend of Mine' for a few weeks now, but she finally released it on her birthday, 20th October, along with the lyric video.

'Friend of Mine' is a song about honesty, hope and forgiveness, with lyrics like: 'Darling, even after all this time, will you still be a friend of mine? We said some things and we crossed the line, but will you still be a friend of mine?'

What is 'Friend of Mine' about?

Speaking about her new song Jess said: "This song is about honesty and forgiveness. All friendships and relationships have their ups and downs, life isn’t perfect. Hopefully people can hear their own stories in the lyrics and it brings them hope.

"I wrote ‘Friend of Mine’ with one of my closest friends and collaborators, Jin Jin. We have worked together so much over the years but this was a real moment for us. It was my first time working with Sub Focus and Ollie Green, and it felt really special walking into a room with such open, safe souls."

When did Jess announce the release date?

Taking to Instagram during the week of release, Jess confirmed the release date of Friday, 20th October, and shared two black and white photos of herself, simply writing: 'FRIEND OF MINE FRIDAY OCTOBER 20'.

'Friend Of Mine' is the follow-up to Jess' comeback song 'Silly Me', released in April this year, and 'What Do You Do?' released in August.

Until earlier this year, Jess had been taking some time out from music, but she made a big comeback with her song 'Silly Me', which had a music video full of surrealist landscapes of memories and moments of reflection.

Speaking about her song at the time of its release, she said: "This song really is about learning from your mistakes and growing from them. Life isn’t perfect, we all mess up along the way and have moments where we have felt silly, but what matters is picking yourself up and not being too hard on yourself."
