Following the announcement of three gigs in Manchester and Cardiff earlier this week, the band have now released three more dates in the same cities, due to high demand!
Having performed a six-date residency at London’s Wembley Stadium in front of over 500,000 fans, followed by two amazing nights in Glasgow, in August 2022, Coldplay first announced a trio of UK stadium concerts for summer 2023.
They shared a video announcing the dates, showing clips from the band's amazing 'Music of The Spheres' world tour.
Chris Martin, Johnny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion will play two nights at Manchester Etihad Stadium on Wednesday 31st May and Thursday 1st June, followed by a concert at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on Tuesday 6th June 2023.
Coldplay began teasing their UK tour last week when they sent an email to their mailing list, saying ‘Further 2023 dates are expected to be announced soon…”
At around the same time the email was sent, the visually spectacular video for Coldplay's new single ‘Humankind’ premiered, which cryptically featured the names of various cities in the opening and closing sequences.
There were two UK cities alluded to in the opening sequence – a picture of Cardiff Castle at the top of some escalators, and the word ‘Manchester’ written in digital lettering.
Coldplay, of course, are now confirmed to play those two UK cities in 2023 as part of The Music Of The Spheres World Tour.
The six UK concerts are part of a larger European trek that also visits Portugal, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Denmark and the Netherlands next summer.
Since the band’s record-breaking tour began in Costa Rica in March 2022, more than four million tickets have been sold for the dates in Latin America, North America and Europe.
The tour has also been heralded for its groundbreaking set of sustainability initiatives which include a show powered by 100% renewable energy in almost all locations; the world’s first tourable battery system (made from 40 BMW electric car batteries); power bikes and kinetic dancefloors allowing fans to help power the show; solar panels and wind turbines at every venue; a pledge to cut tour emissions by 50%; incentives to encourage fans to travel by green transport; and one tree planted for every ticket sold.
