'Unhealthy' colouring room listening party

In July 2023, Anne-Marie announced a listening party with her fans. The singer has previously said she loves to do colouring books, and to celebrate the album's release, Anne-Marie invited 25 lucky people to join her and listen to music from her album, while they coloured in the walls of a room!

How did Anne-Marie announce her new album?

As well as sharing details of her third album on social media, Anne-Marie also announced her album to some fans in Brick Lane, London. The singer revealed a billboard advertising her new album, which she graffitied with devil horns.

The singer shared a video of the event on her socials, telling her fans: 'THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING WITH ME TO ANNOUNCE THE ALBUM THIS MORNING. Can’t wait for you to hear it. Pre order NOW, UNHEALTHY out July 28th!!!!'. (sic)

What did Anne-Marie say about her third album?

Before announcing the name and release date on 27th April, Anne-Marie had been drip-feeding information on her new music.

While promoting her single 'Psycho' with Aitch in September 2022, Anne-Marie revealed that she had already started working on the record - and that 'Psycho' is the first track to be released from it.

She said: "I've been writing a lot of new stuff... and I feel like I've figured out what I want to say. I feel like from the first and second album I've learnt a lot about myself, and now this is know who I am."

In December, she also sneakily revealed in an Instagram post that she was potentially releasing new music soon! Anne-Marie posted a series of photos and videos within the post - but snuck in a tease at the end of the caption.

She wrote: 'A dump. PSYCHO went top 5 this week after being in the charts for 11 weeks and i just wanna say thank you so much. What the hell! What else has been happening: my hair got stuck in a tree. My Spotify stats are mental. Tattoo removal is painful. My sister won a pair of trainers in a raffle. That’s about it. Oh new music maybe. I love you.'

Warning: Explicit language in the video.

Anne-Marie joined us backstage at Isle of Wight Festival and told her that it felt weird releasing her new music.

She told Tom Green: "I mean, it's always weird when you release something because it's your baby innit? And you're so proud of it, and you just don't know what people are going to think or say. I just hope that people will like it, and it's my third one now, so (I) should be used to it by now!"

What is the story behind ‘Unhealthy’ the album?

Anne-Marie told us in an interview that the album is about two relationships, one good and one bad. The singer explained: "It goes through every phase of a relationship, so from the start… It’s two relationships, but it goes to show that for me personally, if it’s a good relationship it’s unhealthy, and if it’s a bad relationship it’s unhealthy."

She went on to explain: "’Unhealthy’ is actually about finding someone you’re just so in love with, and you just become completely obsessed with that person, and everyone’s like ‘Wow Anne-Marie, chill out mate, maybe leave your house once!’"

Where did it come in the charts?

'Unhealthy' peaked at Number 2 in the UK, just being pipped to the post by Travis Scott's 'Utopia'.

How was ‘Unhealthy’ the album written?

Anne-Marie’s third album was written at writing camps, which is something that Anne-Marie hasn’t done before. She explained: "I never really believed that I would good for them, because I’m quite a control freak, so I like going into a room and just controlling it!"

However, after someone suggested it for her third album, she agreed. Anne-Marie spent some time at Decoy Studios in Suffolk, a place known to be used by Ed Sheeran, Lewis Capaldi and many other famous artists.

A total of 19 songs were written in a week, according to the singer, who said she did four writing camps in total, coming out with songs from a variety genres, including rock, pop, country and musical.

Working with Shania Twain

Anne-Marie worked with Shania Twain on her song 'Unhealthy', and she revealed backstage at Isle of Wight Festival what it was like to work with the country legend. Anne-Marie told Tom Green: "I was thinking, who would I collaborate (with), if I was to, who would it be. And obviously it was Shania Twain."

After getting in touch with Shania, the country singer invited Anne-Marie over to a studio in London. "It was one of my most amazing moments in my life, for sure," Anne-Marie told us. "I'll never forget, and she is brilliant. She is brilliant, she's so... her personality is so excitable, she made me feel like it's alright to be weird."

What was the release date?

The album was released on 28th July 2023, making it now a year old.
