The Greatest Showman took the world by storm when it was released in 2017, so when rumours of a sequel to the ever-popular film started to circulate, it got fans of the musical VERY excited. Now, Zac Efron, who plays Phillip Carlyle, has shared some exciting news regarding a sequel.

Whilst Zac didn't confirm or deny a sequel, he revealed in a TV interview, "Hugh (Jackman) is working on all sorts of things including a one man show. What’s next? I don’t know but I hope there is a sequel."

He continued, "The real answer is 'could be'. I'm not sure. I'm being completely honest with you, there is talk of something going around but no one is really sure. I think right now there's more emphasis being put on what will happen with it... No one is really sure right now, so that's the honest truth.

"But I think someone is working on a treatment for something... I know they are, they're working on a treatment for something."

So there we have it, although it's not been confirmed, it certainly sounds like something could be in the works! However, despite the excitement around a potential sequel, even it if gets the go ahead, we could be in for a long wait for it.

The Greatest Showman, starring Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron and Michelle Williams, took a massive seven years to get made after Hugh battled to get an original musical made. "It is notoriously one of the hardest things to do in Hollywood,” Hugh told the PEOPLE editor-in-chief Jess Cagle in 2017.

He went on to explain, "I think just the climate of Hollywood was like, ‘There’s just too many risks. There’s too much to do. It’s too much, let’s not do that anymore.’ I mean, there’s been musicals, obviously: Les Mis, Mamma Mia. But an original movie musical is really hard. So that was, yeah, seven years ago, and here we are."

Since its release, The Greatest Showman has been incredibly popular, spawning a remastered album featuring the soundtrack from the musical, including the very popular version of 'Rewrite The Stars' sung by James Arthur and Anne-Marie.
