Focus Features has just unveiled an all new trailer for Belfast, the upcoming semi-autobiographical film from Kenneth Branagh.

The film follows nine-year-old Buddy, played by newcomer Jude Hill, as he comes of age at the start of The Troubles.

Jamie Dornan and Outlander’s Caitríona Balfe star as Buddy’s conflicted parents, with Dame Judi Dench and Game of Thrones Ciarán Hinds are the boy’s grandparents.

Branagh and his family moved to Berkshire, England to escape the Troubles when he was just nine, and if the trailer is any indication, Buddy and his family are thinking about the same.

The new trailer shows everything from exploding cars to dance scenes, of course with the local legend Van Morrison playing a big part of the soundtrack.

It’s not just our history that’s documented in the film, it looks llike Kenneth Branagh has written this with our local sense of humour in mind.

The Irish were born for leaving,” one character quips in the trailer. “Otherwise, the rest of the world would have no pubs.”

Next month, the film will have its Irish première at this year’s Belfast Film Festival at The ICC Belfast, Waterfront Hall.

Excited to return to Belfast for opening night Kenneth Branagh said:

"I am fortunate to have attended film festivals throughout the world for this most personal of films, but it was always my hope that we might be invited to bring ‘Belfast’ home.
