Belfast movie leads the way for 2022 Golden Globe Awards
Awards season is just around the corner 🏆
Last updated 13th Dec 2021
Sir Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast, an acclaimed semi-autobiographical film about his home city in the early years of the Troubles, has received seven nominations for the upcoming Golden Globe Awards.
There’s stiff competition for the controversial awards this year, The Power of the Dog, a Benedict Cumberbatch Western movie, is also up for seven awards.
In television, the HBO drama Succession earned the most nominations with five nods, closely followed with Apple's Ted Lasso and The Morning Show" with four nominations each.
The Golden Globes are bestowed by 87 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association – (HFPA) however following a year of controversy it has been decided that the ceremony in January won’t be televised.
After last year’s ceremony, the Los Angeles Time reported that there were no black members of the HFPA. This triggered investigations both behind the scenes of the Globes and other high-profile accolades.
In fact, Tom Cruise returned his three Golden Globes in protest.
In the past year, the HFPA has recruited "predominantly diverse" members, appointing a chief diversity officer and making its members take diversity, equality and inclusion training.
