TV host Sarah Beeny reveals she's been diagnosed with breast cancer
She's 50-years-old
Popular TV host and property expert Sarah Beeny has revealed she was diagnosed with breast cancer three weeks ago, at the age of 50.
Sarah, who is best known for presenting shows such as New Life in the Country, Renovate Don't Relocate, and Property Ladder, announced her diagnosis during an interview with The Telegraph.
Admitting she has already started chemotherapy, mum-of-four Sarah sadly revealed she has 'waited 40 years to hear those words', following the passing of her mum Ann, who died of the same disease at the age of just 39.
She said of her own diagnosis: "The nurse was so sweet and they were really nice to me but I thought, 'You don't understand. I have waited 40 years to hear those words.' I knew I was going to hear them one day."
As Sarah has been told the cancer has not spread and that there's 'an 80 percent chance of a cure', the 50-year-old has made the decision to have a mastectomy in the New Year, as well as starting radiotherapy.
With the help of her children and husband, Sarah made the decision to cut off her hair over the weekend, sending it off to charity The Little Princess Trust, who give 'hair & hope to children and young people by providing free real hair wigs'.
Sharing photos to Instagram, Sarah told fans: 'A little pile of not very good condition hair on it’s way to @officiallittleprincesstrust - my trainee hairdressers cut off my hair on Friday night - getting one step ahead after first chemo treatment for breast cancer on Friday - the exclusive club you’d rather not be a member of!' (sic)
Speaking to The Telegraph, Sarah said: "Graham was trying to cut it nicely, but the boys - well, they're not going to be famous hairdressers.
"They said I looked like Cersei Lannister from Game of Thrones - I mean, she's beautiful so I was sort of flattered, but my hair is now about a centimetre long in some places and it's an inch long in others."
Sarah married her husband Graham Swift back in 2003, with the pair going on to have four children together, Billy, 18, Charlie, 16, Rafferty, 14, and Laurie, 12.
Despite her diagnosis, the TV host has confirmed she will continue to work on her upcoming book and new Channel 4 series.
We wish Sarah all the best with her treatment ❤️.
