It's been 17 months since the news broke that Liam Payne and Cheryl Tweedy had split, and this Christmas the former One Direction singer will be spending some quality family time with his ex and their two-year-old son, Bear Grey Payne.

Liam revealed he's excited to cook them all a Christmas dinner as he opened up about their festive plans on This Morning. He said he hopes Bear can open his presents for the first time this year.

He said, "I am going to see Bear and maybe cook Christmas dinner. I think we are going to go down and hang out."

The 'Stack It Up' singer continued to tell Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, "It is the first time he really gets Christmas now, I want to see if he actually gets unwrapping presents this year though, otherwise it will just be Cheryl by the tree again.

"I can really remember it from last year. She wrapped them all up and then unwrapped them. I just sat there going, 'Right, what is this?'"

Liam also opened up in the interview about how he sought therapy following One Direction's hiatus, saying, "I went through a number of different bits of therapy and whatever else. I think for anybody out there who’s having a problem with mental health or something and that struggle, the best thing is to just go and speak to someone.

"If you go through it by yourself, you’re your own soundboard. And we’re all just as crazy as the next person. You need someone to validate your experience almost."

Cheryl and Liam announced they were parting ways two years after they began dating in March 2016. Following the split, Cheryl said she was coping well and that she and Liam needed to put little Bear first.

She said, "It is what it is, and I’m okay about it. When you have a baby, you are not consumed with just thinking about yourself. It’s your responsibility to keep things settled and happy, so you make the best of everything. And we have."

The Girls Aloud singer has also previously said how Liam is a great dad and confessed how she is the strict parent out of the two of them. She said, "I’m the strict one; Liam isn’t. I’ll be the one saying, ‘Just one square of chocolate,’ but Bear is so good."
