The Lego Movie Named Highest Grossing Film of 2014 in UK & Ireland

Hilarious animated comedy The Lego Movie has been unveiled as the highest grossing movie of 2014 in the UK and Ireland.

Released in the UK last February, the film amassed ÂŁ34.4million at the box office to take the top spot.

The third and final Hobbit movie, The Battle of the Five Armies, was the second most popular making an impressive ÂŁ33.5million in the final 19 days of 2014 alone.

The Inbetweeners 2 is in third spot with a box office revenue ÂŁ33.3million making it the most popular British film of the year on home soil.

It was the fifth consecutive year that overall takings exceeded ÂŁ1.1billion, however despite these successes the takings were down 2.9% on 2013 when Despicable Me 2 was the biggest movie with takings of ÂŁ47.4million.

With huge blockbusters such has James Bond: Spectre, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avengers: Age of Ultron all being released it’s expected that takings will be up in 2015.
