Kiefer Sutherland On 24's Return & 'Phenomenal' Stephen Fry

Kiefer Sutherland says he was anxious about reprising his role as Jack Bauer in iconic series 24.

Four years after the eighth season came to a rousing finale, Jack is back on Sky One tonight for a 12-part series set in London called Live Another Day.

47-year-old Kiefer said at the press launch yesterday that making a return as Jack on TV screens made him nervous.

“This role has been so special to me and my life and the character has been one of the great gifts I’ve ever been given,” he explained.

“Before shooting I was very nervous. I think it took me 15 minutes to say ‘yes I’ll do it’ and it took me six months to say ‘oh my God why have I?!’”

Kiefer added: "The last thing you want to do is damage the legacy of a show you've put to bed.

“We had put this to bed for a reason: Howard Gordon, our lead writer, was tired. He had written 196 episodes - the equivalent of 100 movies - in an eight-year period.

"That gave me pause for thought. But now we're almost finished I'm so glad, and arguably we've made the best season ever."

Kiefer was also full of praise for his co-star Stephen Fry who plays fictional British Prime Minister Alastair Davies in the show.
