Fans of Coronation Street star Faye Brookes and former Pop Idol singer Gareth Gates were left in turmoil last September, when the pair announced they'd decided to split after a six-year relationship.

Fast-forward a few months, the pair reconciled and Gareth popped the question to Faye during a trip to New York in January, and now they seem more loved-up than ever!

Faye, who plays the role of Kate Connor on Coronation Street, has now opened up about their split, admitting it's made their relationship 'much stronger'.

Speaking to Fabulous magazine, the actress revealed she didn't have any contact with Gareth during their break, adding, "That cut in communication from someone who is my best friend was good for me because it gave me clarity."

She then said, "And it also gave him a very clear peace of mind as well. It’s as if he looks at me with a whole new respect. I feel empowered."

Revealing they are so much stronger now, Kate told the publication, "I can’t tell you how much stronger we are. It’s unbelievable how far we’ve come in such a short space of time. I like the way that we’ve not just gone back to our old ways but found 'us' again in a whole new light.

"It’s a very intense love, like nothing I’ve ever felt, and I don’t want that to go away. So I’m not letting it go."

The happy couple announced their engagement in January, with Gareth later revealing he penned a 17-MINUTE song about their six years together, incorporating things which mean a lot to the couple.

He told OK! Magazine, “It was all about the six years we’ve spent together and I incorporated bits of songs that mean a lot to us as a couple. I got a bit carried away though – it went on for 17 minutes!”
