Just weeks after the death of Country great, Glen Campbell, Country Music gets ready to say farewell to another country legend. Don Williams passed away yesterday (September 8th) in Mobile, Alabama. He was 78.
Born in Texas in 1939, he was the youngest of three sons. He rose to fame in the 70s and in 1973 he had his first charting single with ‘Shelter Of Your Eyes’ reaching number 14 in the US Country Chart. For the next 10 years each single released made it into the top 10 of that chart.
Country's ‘Gentle Giant’ was a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, had eight Academy of Country music nominations, six CMA nominations and in 1978 walked away with ACM Single of The Year and CMA Male vocalist of the Year.
His unique baritone voice made him the distinctive vocalist we all knew and loved. Alison Krauss who sang along with him on ‘I Just Come Here for the Music’ described him as sounding "somewhere between Santa Claus and the Almighty"
