Cheryl Fernandez-Versini has found herself under serious backlash recently after it was confirmed she is dating One Direction heartthrob Liam Payne, but now the singer has hit back with an emotional message to women.

The X Factor judge has encouraged women to empower each other rather than compete in an emotional post to her 2 million Instagram followers.

Cheryl shared a picture with the words ‘Girls compete with each other, Women empower each other’, but it was the message in her caption which really stuck with people.

The 32-year-old wrote “It can be so hard at times being a girl, for soo many reasons! But we don’t have to make it harder for each other… Why do we still feel the need to do that?? I don’t understand it.”

Cheryl, who is well known for having a bold personality went on to say “I have always been a Girls girl, and love other strong women. That is why I surround myself with them, and that is why I try to empower others. Trying to put another person down, only speaks volumes about your character! And not a thing about theirs... There’s nothing more powerful or beautiful than an inspiring, strong women that you can look up to or turn to… Be one!!!”

Fans of the former Girls Aloud star were quick to jump to Cheryl’s defence with one user writing ‘So true this is why so many people are inspired by you’ whilst another wrote ‘I thank you for always being this way.’

The Geordie girl has received some very harsh criticism since it emerged she was dating One Direction’s Liam Payne, who is 10 years’ younger whilst still being married to ex-partner Jean Bernard.
