Bruce has been diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia

Bruce Willis' daughter Tallulah has opened up about her dad's dementia as she shared an update on his condition. The 68-year-old has been diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD), after previously retiring from acting due to being diagnosed with Aphasia, a condition which impacts speech and language.

Speaking on The Drew Barrymore show, Tallulah Willis said: "What's going on with my dad - he has a really aggressive cognitive disease, a form of dementia that's very rare."

Going on to explain why the family have been so open about Bruce's diagnosis, Tallulah continued: "Well, I think it's twofold. On one hand, it's who we are as a family, but also, it's really important for us to spread awareness about FTD. If we can take something that we're struggling with as a family, and help other people to turn it around, to make something beautiful about it, that's really special for us."

The 29-year-old also shared that her and her father like to spend time together listening to music. She added: "Playing music and sitting in that and this energy of love, it's really special.

"A really beautiful way for me to heal through this is becoming like an archaeologist to my dad's stuff, his little trinkets and doodads."

Offering an update on Bruce's health, Tallulah said: "He is the same, which, I think, in this regard I've learned is the best thing you can ask for. I see love when I'm with him, and it's my dad and he loves me."

Back in February, Bruce's family took to Instagram to share the news of his diagnosis. In an emotional statement, they said: 'Our family wanted to start by expressing our deepest gratitude for the incredible outpouring of love, support and wonderful stories we have all received since sharing Bruce’s original diagnosis. In the spirit of that, we wanted to give you an update about our beloved husband, father and friend since we now have a deeper understanding of what he is experiencing.

'Since we announced Bruce’s diagnosis of aphasia in spring 2022, Bruce’s condition has progressed and we now have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD). Unfortunately, challenges with communication are just one symptom of the disease Bruce faces. While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis.'
