Ashley Cain's daughter Azaylia taken to hospital as feeding tube fails to work
The Ex on the Beach star continues to update fans on her condition
Ashley Cain’s baby daughter Azaylia was urgently rushed back to hospital yesterday after a problem with her feeding tube meant that she was unable to receive critical medication.
The Ex on the Beach star has been continuing to update fans on the condition of his eight-month-old daughter who was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer called acute myloid leukaemia (AML) when she was just eight weeks old.
Despite raising over £1.4million to fund life-saving treatment in Singapore, doctors have since told Ashley and his girlfriend Saffiya Vorajee the heartbreaking news that they have run out of options to treat the disease and Azaylia has returned home to receive palliative care.
In his latest update, Ashley told fans that Azaylia had to be taken to hospital due to complications with her feeding tube but inserting a new one wouldn’t be an easy task due to the tumours throughout her body.
He said, “We've had to come back to hospital now, when we were testing Azaylia's NG tube, it's not coming back with the correct PH. That means we can't feed her down the tube, we can't put medication down the tube, so that means we've got a problem.
“Also, they can't just fit another tube, because of her platelet levels being so low, and because of her tumours - they don't want to catch anything on the way down and cause her to bleed out.”
Ashley continued, “So we've come into hospital for an x-ray now to check if the tube is in the right place, and if it's not, a clear passage for a new tube because it's urgent she gets her food and her medication."
He added, “There's no easy day on this journey, trust me. Let's go champ."
Fortunately, the issue with Azaylia's feeding tube appeared to be resolved quickly by hospital staff and her mum Safiyya later explained, "That was a really really quick and easy trip because the nurse checked Azaylia's NG tube and we didn't have to go through the palaver of having an X-ray.
"She managed to get a good PH level so we're really happy now and Azaylia is on a platelet transfusion."
Safiyya recently revealed the touching way she’s going to honour Azaylia’s life by getting a tattoo of her handprints and footprints.
She said, “We did some more castings of her yesterday, we got the prints for some necklaces, of handprints and footprints. And I was worried because, what if I dropped one. So then the lady was just really good, and she did these prints so that I can get a tattoo. So I can always have her so close.
"So I decided to get the prints done so I can get a tattoo, of her little hands and her feet.”
