Cliftonville Community Group

The Cliftonville Community Centre provides social, educational and recreation services for everyone in the community. They are a registered charity, and over the past 7 years have become a beacon of hope and opportunity in the local community.

Cash for Kids have awarded the community centre's youth program a grant a to secure the running of the 2013 summer scheme. Many of the young people come from low income families and have poor educational attainment. This summer scheme will welcome young people from both sides of the community in this well-known interface area.

During the summer scheme, the young people will develop both team work and interpersonal skills, and will be encouraged to reach their full potential. It will provide the young people with a chance to have a fun and active summer while keeping them safe and away from interface violence. Money will be spent on facilitating the summer scheme and in particular funding activities and transport.

Cliftonville Community Centre and Bridging the Interface project team up together with young people aged 16-18 years old from the Rosapenna/Cliftonpark Ave interface area, both Catholic and Protestant, to gain an accreditation in youth work (OCN Level 1 in leadership).

The group have been working together over 10 weeks and for all their hard work and dedication they planned an outing together to Need For Speed Karting, which was made possible by the grant receive from Cash For Kids.

These young people have taken the skills they have gained and put it into practise in their own communities during the summer months, where they have become young leaders in organising and planning summer activities for other young people.
