The Newington striker has won the Northern Ireland Football Writers' Association Championship Player of the Month for August
Newington striker Zach Barr is the Northern Ireland Football Writers' Association's Championship Player of the Month for August.
The striker bagged five goals in the month including a hat-trick against Institute. Thanks to Barr's goals, Newington are the surprise early leaders of the Playr-Fit Championship.
Barr said: "If you told me we would be top of the league after the first few weeks of the season, I wouldn't have believed you.
"At this stage, we are just ticking the games off and getting as many points on the board as we can. We're feeling confident and feeling like we can push on."
Newington take on second-placed Dundela tomorrow at 3pm. Both sides have won five and lost one of their opening six games in the league and both have found the net 14 times, with Newington top by virute of having conceded six goals to Dundela's eight to date.
