Women's World Cup: NI set to play at National Stadium for first time since 2010
Northern Ireland women are set to play at Windsor Park for the first time in over a decade.
They'll host Latvia in a World Cup Qualifier on the 21st of September.
The women's side last played at the National Football Stadium in 2010, before the redevelopment.
The game in Belfast is the second of a home double-header for boss Kenny Shiels’ side with Luxembourg the opposition on Friday, September 17 (venue to be confirmed).
Shiels acknowledges it as another important step for the women’s game in Northern Ireland.
“With the sense of occasion that was the UEFA Super Cup brought to Belfast last week still fresh in my mind, I will be particularly proud to walk the team out at the National Football Stadium at Windsor Park. It will be a memorable occasion,” he said.
Captain Marissa Callaghan echoed the manager's sentiments and said it will be an ‘amazing experience’.
“I know I speak for the whole squad when I say how excited we are. Stepping over the white line at the National Football Stadium is something we have all dreamt about for years.”
Northern Ireland then take on England at Wembley Stadium on 23 October.
