Women's Cricket: Belfast schoolgirl hits century for Ireland to become one-day international world beater

Amy Hunter received an extra-special 16th birthday present today (Monday).

The Belfast schoolgirl marked the occasion playing for Ireland against Zimbabwe during which she hit a century to become the youngest-ever player to do so in the history of the one-day international game.

In addition her 121* from 127 balls in the match being played in Harare was also the highest score by a batter for Ireland Women, passing Karen Young’s 120 made in 2000 against Pakistan.

The record-breaking innings comes as part of Ireland Women posting 312-3 from 50 overs – the highest team total by Ireland Women in ODI cricket.
