Wilson playing for pride in final Ulster appearance

After 220 appearances for Ulster, Roger Wilson is calling time on his professional career.

The 35-year-old will line out for the final time this Saturday when Leinster come to the Kingspan.

It could have been a season-defining fixture, but Ulster have limped to a finish in the PRO12, and look almost certain to finish in 5th place and miss out on the playoffs.

"Leinster are always the first team I look for when the fixture list comes out, the team I love to play against. But it's been strange because for the first time in a while we're into the final game with nothing really to play for."

"You can see the boys' heads are down a bit this week, so the key message here is to go out and play for individual pride," said Wilson.

"It'll be different - possibly a little emotional, although personally I wouldn't be the most emotional person. It'll probably be a little bit strange."

After making his Ulster debut in 2003, he left the province in 2008 to join Northampton. During a 4 year stint with the English club, he won the Challenge Cup and the LV Cup.

"The main changes are that the game's got more technical. Back then 14 years ago, it was quite basic."

Wilson will do some local coaching next season, but says his plans lie away from Northern Ireland, as he intends to move his family to the USA.
