On a sun soaked day at Clones, Mickey Harte's men and Eamonn Burns' side were well matched in the first half.

Tyrone took a narrow lead into the break, the half-time score 0-7 to 0-5.

That was despite losing Kieran McGeary to a black card just before the interval, after he pulled down Jerome Johnston.

However, it was the Red Hands who showed their clinical edge in the second half to pull away.

Down's Kevin McKernan seemed to be hardly done by when he picked up a black card as well early in the second period.

Two goals form sub Ronan O'Neill, the second a glorious left foot chip over Down keeper Michael Cunningham killed the game off.

The winners lost Cathal McCarron after he became involved in a scuffle just before the end of the game, but had more than enough about them to see out the result.

It's Mickey Harte's sixth Anglo-Celt cup in charge of Tyrone and the county's 15th in total.

They now move into the quarter final draw, whereas Down must wait to see whether they play Monaghan or Armagh in the qualifiers.
