That takes the Crues to 76 points.

Glenavon are still third but they are now 15 points behind Stephen Baxter’s side.

In addition, Linfield, their closest rivals for third place, are breathing down their neck.

Before the game, Lurgan Blues boss, Gary Hamilton, challenge his side to putting in a performance for the fans after their shock exit from the Tennent’s Irish Cup at the hands of Championship side, Loughgall.

And they did get off to the perfect start through a Mark Sykes goal but could do little about the Crues onslaught.

In the only other game of the night Ballymena staked their claim for a post-split sixth place finish after winning 3-2 at Dungannon Swifts.
