Glentoran veteran Elliott Morris is enjoying the club's turnaround in fortune, and says he wants to put last season behind him.

The East Belfast club had a torrid time of things, and eventually finished deep down in the bottom half of the Danske Bank Premiership.

"We don't want to be 9th in the table, and I sure don't want to be 9th. There has to be a change of mentality here because at the end of the day, 9th? That's abysmal. Really, really poor. We were getting absolutely slaughtered, and rightly so," said Morris.

Although Glentoran have made a flying start to this season, things didn't look promising over summer, as a run of pre-season defeats left fans deflated and angry.

"We look at the abuse we were getting in pre-season - and rightly so - and we thought, 'everyone's out to get us, here.' We have to push for better, and it has to be better."

"We're looking to target the top 6 so we're on the right track," said Morris.

"We're all hungry here and we're all buzzing to get this club back were it belongs - but it's going to take time."

Glentoran sit 5th, having won 4 of their 8 league games, losing only once in a narrow defeat at Windsor Park.

Last Saturday, they were held to a goalless draw by the league leaders Coleraine, with the Glens missing a last-minute penalty.

"Coleraine are top of the league, they're flying, and nobody else has held them to a clean sheet. But they played with 10 men, so we're a wee bit dejected in the changing room," said Morris.

Next up for Glentoran is the visit of Crusaders on Monday the 2nd of October.

"It's a massive came and the Crues will throw everything at us. They're a bit stop-start at the moment, but they'll be challenging for the league. So it's going to be a massive game and we need another massive performance."
