Rory McIlroy has reclaimed his Number Two spot in the world rankings.

He finished fourth late last night in the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill in Florida.

But it could have been even better for the Holywood superstar. He was leading with two to play but bogeyed the 18th

He had a nightmare start to the tournament – nearly missing the cut – but fought back to put himself in real contention after three rounds.

By the final round the four-time Major winner had recorded his seventh birdie of the day at the 16th.

The eventual winner was Australian Marc Leishman.

He said: “I can’t complain too much. It would have been nice to give it a bit of a better go.

“I had two chances on 17 and 18 there but hopefully I can get back up on the horse next week and try and get a win at the Match Play.”
