McFall pledges to 'steady the ship' as he climbs into Glens hot seat
Veteran manager comes out of retirement to take over at Oval until end of season
Ronnie McFall has vowed to give his all to helping Glentoran secure a top six finish.
The Irish League legend stepped out of retirement last night to become boss at the Oval for the second time in 34 years.
But he will only stay until the end of the season.
McFall, who replaces the sacked Gary Haveron, says his remit is simple.
“I am going in to steady the ship and give them a bit of breathing space before they make their next appointment,” he told Glens TV.
He said he never intended to return to the game.
“I had retired – I had no intentions of coming back,” he said. “I have been to a lot of games here and when they asked me to help out I was only too delighted to do that so hopefully it will prove a success.”
McFall will be in the hot seat tomorrow for a vital home game with Cliftonville.
The Glens are currently sixth in the Danske Bank Premiership table on 37 points from 28 games.
But just a few weeks away from the league split, they are only two points ahead of Ballymena but have played three more games.
McFall was last in club management two years ago when he resigned as manager of Portadown after more than 29 years in charge – a European record
