Warrenpoint have "parted ways" with manager Stephen McDonnell.

In a statement on Twitter the club said: "We thank Stephen for his time here at Warrenpoint and wish him all the best for the future."

It comes on the back of a series of defeats including this week's 7-0 thrashing by Linfield that have seen the Point rooted firmly to the foot of the Danske Bank Premiership table with just three points.

That was their 11th defeat from 12 this season.

Before the announcement overnight we spoke to skipper Fra McCaffrey who is guesting on our latest BetMclean Facebook and Podcast show. See link below ...

He told us that McDonnell had the full backing of the squad despite the results.

"I think everyone at the minute is a bit down, but Stevie is a top man," he said.

"He does everything for the team and works so hard for the players. And I think we have let him down massively this season with results and performances - we owe him a lot."

McCaffrey who has been sidelined with injury said it was up to the players to restore some pride to the club.

"We need to turn this around and repay the faith he's shown in us and get ourselves out of this mess. We need to do it for him, and for ourselves, a bit of pride."

"It's different if you're injured and your team's winning. It's bad but it's not as bad as when your team's really struggling, the manager's struggling. You just want to be out there, battling for your teammates and for the club."
