MASTERS: Scottie Scheffler wins first major despite late push from Rory McIlroy
The Northern Irishman came second after an astonishing final round
Scottie Scheffler secured his first major on Sunday at Augusta as he won this year's Masters.
Scheffler finished with a one-under 71, missing two short putts for a double bogey on 18, to finish 10 under par.
The 25-year-old finished three shots ahead of Rory McIlroy, who shot an incredible round of 64.
McIlroy began the day 10 off the lead but was clearly up for a late challenge to wear the green jacket.
Birdies on the first and third kickstarted the day, with three more on seven, eight and 10 putting him in joint third.
Then came the conversion of an eagle putt on the par-five 13th to put him seven under for the day and the course record of 63 in his sights.
The title slipped away from the Holywood man but not without him producing one of the best shots in Masters history,
From a bunker, just off the green, he splashed out and holed for birdie, sending the crowd in to raptures.
