Loughgall were the toast of the Tennent's Irish Cup after pulling off one of the biggest shocks in recent competition history.

The villagers beat high-flying Danske Bank Premiership side, Glenavon, 2-1 yesterday at a wintry Mourneview Park, to progress to the semi-finals.

And it was no more than Dean Smith’s team deserved.

They were impressive throughout and went 2-0 up thanks to Dale Montgomery and Gary Liggett strikes.

And the score could have been higher. Earlier, Jonathan Tuffey saved a Liggett penalty and there was also a disallowed ‘goal’.

Glenavon got a consolation strike through James Singleton in stoppage time

The Lurgan tie was the only Irish Cup quarter final to survive the snow.

Glenavon ground staff along with a raft of volunteers and supporters had undertaken a massive clear-up operation to ensure the game went ahead.
