Rory McIlroy will begin his quest for a first Major title in nine years this afternoon at the 151st Open Championship.

That's the venue the 34-year-old won the third of his four majors to date in 2014. He went to on to claim the PGA Championship later this year, but has been unable to add to his tally in the intervening years.

He goes into this year's Open in good form, having birdied the final two holes to win the Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club on Sunday.

McIlroy tees off at 2.59pm for his first round and 9.58am in round two on Friday.

Elsewhere, Ireland's Shane Lowry, who lifted the claret jug in 2019, is grouped with American Rickie Fowler and Scotland's Robert McIntyre - the man McIlroy pipped to last weekend's win - at 10.09am on Thursday and 3.10pm on Friday.

Fellow Irish pair Padraig Harrington and Seamus Power will play the opening two rounds together, alongside American Talor Gooch. They're already put on the course today tee off at 9.14am on Thursday and 3.15pm on Friday. Harrington won back-to-back Open titles in 2007 and 2008.
