Glentoran going all out to defend NI Women's Challenge Cup title
But Linfield out to spoil party
One of the key dates in the calendar of local women’s football takes place at the weekend.
The Electric Ireland Challenge Cup final will be staged on Saturday at the National Stadium at Windsor Park (ko 7.30pm).
Once again, Glentoran will take on Linfield Ladies.
Last year, the Glens emerged 2-1 winners and captain Jessica Foy (main picture) said they were going all out again for the win.
Her message for the players and supporters is simple.
“Just believe in yourselves, believe in the team,” she told Downtown & Cool FM.
“Obviously it will be another fantastic feeling for the club – it will be a fantastic celebration – we’ve already lifted two trophies so far this season so hopefully we will lift a third.”
But Blues skipper Kirsty McGuinness believes defeat in 2018 will act as a spur for them to win this time around.
“Obviously, going 1-0 up in the cup final and then getting beat 2-1 obviously hurt the whole squad,” she told us.
“So hopefully we will learn from our mistakes and hopefully by the end of Saturday night we will be the ones with the trophy."
