Giants lose first in five to fired-up Flame
Three goals not enough to maintain winning run
Belfast Giants’ winning streak is finally at an end.
They lost only their first game in five after going down 5-3 away to the Guildford Flame.
Despite defeat, the Giants are still in the runners-up spot in the Elite League standings with 29 points from 23 games – just behind the Nottingham Panthers.
The Giants attempted to salvage something from the game with an impressive final period, however three unanswered goals were not enough.
Darcy Murphy got the visitors on the scoresheet, assisted by Brendan Connolly, before Connolly turned from provider to scorer with a powerplay goal, assisted by Cole Jarrett.
David Rutherford pulled the Giants to within two goals.
Next up for the Giants are back-to-back away games against the Manchester Storm and Sheffield Steelers next Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Meanwhile, the next home games are against the Edinburgh Capitals and Braehead Clan on Friday December 29 and Saturday December 30 respectively.
