Giants add Adam Jones in response to injuries
The Stena Line Belfast Giants are pleased to announce the arrival of Adam Jones. The 6’1” defenceman will go straight into the lineup for this weekends’ games on the road in Braehead on Saturday and on Sunday against the Edinburgh Capitals.
Jones’ addition is on a trial basis and will help the roster with the Giants decimated by injuries as no fewer than six players missing this weekend’s games.
21 year old Jones arrives in Belfast having started the 2017/18 season with the Guildford Flames, icing in seven games for the newcomers. Jones qualifies for one of the Giants Under 23 spots open to each Elite League side.
In 2013/14 he iced 5 times with Team GB Under 20 team at the World Championships and spent his domestic season in mainland Europe with Lower Austria Stars Under 20 side who compete in the Erste Bank Young Stars League.
Jones also has Canadian roots and iced in North America for most of his junior career. He spent two seasons with Summerland Steam in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League, playing 128 games while posting 132 penalty minutes, 15 goals and 28 assists, good for 43 points.
The defenceman with a left shot spent the 2016/17 season, his first as a professional, with the Telford Tigers, helping the EPL side win the league championship. Jones posted four goals and 13 assists, good for 17 points in 54 games.
Adam Keefe on the signing of Adam Jones:
“Adam was a player I spoke to in the Summer. He went to Guildford and did not really get an opportunity there. This is a perfect opportunity for Adam to come to Belfast on a tryout basis and show us what he’s got.”
“His teammates have nothing but good things to say about him as a player and a person - why would I now want to add that to our line up? I’m looking forward to seeing him in action.
