Ciara Mageean has comfortably booked her place in the European Championships 1500m final in Munich.

The Portaferry star, fresh from her silver medal at the Commonwealth Games, finished in second place in the second heat this morning at the Olympiastadion in the Bavarian city.

She came home in an impressive 4:03.03, which was a season's best for the 30-year-old.

Having led early on in the race, she was passed by Poland's Sofia Ennaoui, who took top spot.

Earlier, Commonwealth Games gold medallist Laura Muir from Scotland won Heat 1 in a slower time of 4:06.40.

Mageean and Muir now go head to head in the final on Friday for a chance to win European gold.
