Stephen Baxter is optimistic Crusaders will turnaround their disappointing season so far in the league – and even put themselves in contention for the title.

Speaking on Cool FM’s Facebook Danske Bank Premiership show, in association with NIFL, the Crues boss believes “hard work” will see them through a poor start by their high standards.

“I really believe our levels are good,” he said.

“I look around the squad and see the type of players we have and they are all very very good players.

“You just have to keep working hard and not get too frustrated in the process.”

Baxter, one of the Irish League’s most highly-decorated players and managers, believes they can still win the title.

“Can we win the league? Yes, we can,” he said.

“But so can Linfield, so can Coleraine and so can Cliftonville.

“So there are teams there who will are very very capable who will all be challenging very hard for it and we are one of those teams.”

Baxter also opened up on life at Seaview – and after nearly 13 years since he became a manager, says he’s still very much passionate about the job.

“As long as I am enjoying it was always the motto,” he said.

“I went in to do nine games as a manager and I think it is going to be 13 years next month so where did that all go.

“But the motivation and drive comes from the players.”

Joining the Crues manager on the panel this week is Cliftonville’s assistant boss Stephen Small.

As usual Cool FM’s Pete Snodden presents with top football writer Steven Beacom helping pose the questions.
