Battling Jamie wins on points
Belfast boxer now has his sights on world title
Jamie Conlan’s world title bid hopes are still very much alive after victory over Yader Cardoza at the Waterfront last night.
But the Belfast man had to scrap right to a nail-biting finish before seeing off his tough Nicaraguan opponent, a one-time world title challenger.
He won on a split decision to pick up the vacant WBC Silver Super Flyweight title.
At one stage Conlan was floored but he picked himself up to earn the 19th straight win of his professional career.
Meanwhile, fellow Belfast boxer Paddy Barnes had little trouble in his six-round points win over Adrian Dimas from Argentina.
The three-time Olympian dominated the fight - his second professional bout.
