The Belfast Giants have had a weekend to forget …

Adam Keefe’s side fell twice to the Fife Flyers – losing 4-2 on Saturday in the Elite League and then by a similar scoreline last night in the Challenge Cup.

It means they have lost their opening Elite League games.

Earlier in the season the Giants had beaten the Flyers in the Challenge Cup.

But they found it difficult to replicate this form in the league.

In Saturday’s game they got off to the best possible start, taking an early lead at 2:29. Jonathan Ferland tipped a Curtis Leonard slapshot past Owen in the Flyers net to edge the visitors 1-0 in front.

The middle period saw the Giants outshoot the Flyers for a second consecutive period. However they were unable to find a way past Shane Owen and took a slender one goal advantage into the final period.

Fife then took control and netted again for a 4-2 victory.

It was a similar story last night with the Giants trailing 3-2 going into the final period.

But, again, the Flyers were able to see out the game – adding another goal to their tally.
