The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning this morning for snow and ice to hit Northern Ireland today.

According to the forecaster; "Outbreaks of rain will arrive from the west during Monday afternoon, turning to sleet and perhaps wet snow at times during the afternoon, evening and first part of the night.

"Snow is expected on high ground above 200 to 300 metres, where several cm snowfall is likely, and perhaps 5 to 10 cm across the higher parts of the Sperrins and Mournes."

The warning is in place from 3pm today (Monday 18th) to 10am tomorrow (Tuesday 19th).

What should I expect?

❄️ Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services

❄️ Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths

❄️ Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces

Northern Ireland's five-day forecast:

Tuesday: Dry and bright start to the day but icy at first some sunny spells developing, wintry showers developing around the north coast in the afternoon and evening. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday: Remaining cold towards the end of the week with wintry showers often pushing into Northern coastal areas, potential for a windy spell on Thursday, brighter on Friday.
