For snow lovers it isn't good news for Christmas Day

The chances of Northern Ireland waking up to a white Christmas are looking increasingly unlikely as forecasters predict mild conditions over the festive period.

Expect a mixture of rain and sunny spells in the coming days with temperatures hovering around 8-10°C.

It's not all bad news for cold weather fans. Things will cool down as we head towards the new year with the chance of hill snow and sleet by next weekend.

Here's a forecast for what to expect over the new few days in the run up to Christmas.

NORTHERN IRELAND LONG RANGE FORECAST

MONDAY (CHRISTMAS EVE) - Bright with sunny spells, although chilly with frost only slowly lifting. Temperatures reaching 7°C

TUESDAY (CHRISTMAS DAY) - Low cloud and mist could be extensive on Christmas day with hill fog. Temperatures reaching 11°C

WEDNESDAY - Mostly cloudy with patchy rain on Boxing Day. Temperatures reaching 11°C

THURSDAY - Mostly cloudy with patchy rain on Boxing Day. Temperatures reaching 10°C

FRIDAY - Band of rain and possibly some hill snow spreads eastwards. Temperatures reaching 9°C

WEEKEND - Colder, clearer showery weather. Temperatures reaching 8°C
