After an unseasonably wet and cool start to August there is finally some good news on the horizon.

Forecasters at the Met Office are predicting more 'settled conditions' and an upturn in mercury levels next week as Northern Ireland looks set to be treated to one final taste of summer.

"Things will start to improve, with high pressure building, there will be a trend for the weather to become less unsettled with increasingly dry conditions developing. Temperatures are likely to be closer to average for August."

Unfortunately there's no sign of a return to the sort of record breaking temperatures witnessed last summer that saw parts of the province hotter the south of Spain and Portugal, but we'll take it.

It's not all good news - before we get there we'll have to put up with another breezy showery weekend to come.
