Colder conditions are expected to move in across Northern Ireland this week.

The Met Office has warned that snow showers are expected throughout Monday, with a couple of centimetres possible at low levels, with higher ground expected to see 5-10 cm in places.

A yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been issued for the next 24 hours - from noon today (Mon 16th Jan) to noon (Tues 17th Jan).

Overnight frost will become more widespread on Monday night, with overnight temperatures below 0°C across much of the UK.

What to expect:

-Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services

-Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces

-Icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths

Temperatures in Scotland could dip down to -10°C in sheltered glens and high ground areas.

Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Helen Caughey, said: "After a spell of wet and mild weather to start 2023, a brief cold spell will change the feel of our weather across the UK for a few days next week.

"As a northerly flow establishes, we’ll see temperatures decline with overnight frosts returning and the chance of wintry showers in the north. It will certainly feel cold in all regions too, with the northerly winds creating a notable windchill."

The colder spell is expected to be short lived, with milder air bringing wet and windy conditions back towards the end of the week.
